On December 20, 2025, the inaugural issue of Flying Fish has been relaunched with major editing revisions. The final copy on this website differs significantly from the initial proof copy sent to all the contributors in December 2024. 

The revised inaugural issue of Flying Fish features 114 poems written by 59 talented poets.

ANNOUNCEMENT 

Dear Poet,

The 2025 Flying Fish nominations for THF Touchstone Awards for Individual Poems have been finalized. They will appear in issue 3. I am thankful to all the contributors who made this possible. In 2026, Flying Fish will go into full mode. 

CHANGES

  • Major editing revisions have been made to the inaugural issue of Flying Fish. The revised inaugural issue will be relaunched on December 20, 2025.
  • New reading periods for 2026: April 15–May 31 (for issue 4) and October 15–November 30 (for issue 5).
  • Beginning with issue 4, Flying Fish will also be accepting gembun submissions.

  • For publication in the January and July issues of Flying Fish, poets are invited to submit at least three and a maximum of eight unpublished works (one line to five lines). 
  • The following poetic forms will be considered for publication: haiku, senryu, tanka, kyoka, and gembun. Your submission can be a mix of any or all of these poetic forms, or it can focus solely on any one of them. Both experimental and traditional works are welcome!
  • The new cut-off dates for completing selections are June 15 (for issue 4) and December 15 (for issue 5). 

  • An announcement will always go out on our website about the completion of selections for each issue.
